Tim Frazier in the NBA

Just wanted to start a new thread given the great news that he will be signing with the Sixers.

First game…Friday at the Celtics, as he’ll match up against Marcus Smart. Be neat to play in Boston against his former teammates.

We needed this good news tonight! Can’t wait to watch Tim play in the NBA.

That is just awesome.

Now we just have to hope that he gets some minutes.

That 10 day deal will pay more than his season contract with Maine.

With Michael Carter-Williams banged up and Tony Wroten done for the season, he’ll get time.

The Sixers are in “tryout” mode and seem to be using the 10-day contracts for that purpose. Also, they are a team that seems to need a facilitator on offense, not a combo guard like MCW, to get guys like Noel, Covington, Grant, Thompson, McDaniels and even MCW some quality looks. Timmy can be that facilitator and more, I feel.

Should be fun to watch.

That’s fantastic news. Really happy for Tim, a couple of years ago I really thought he was capable of making it to this point and then the injury happened and it seems like it took him a year or so to shake that off, but he seems to be playing the best he ever has now and I couldn’t be happier for him or more proud of him as a PSU guy.

I’m going to tweet him.

I tweeted him yesterday trying to get him to “commit” to the Atlanta Hawks instead.

It’s a bit disappointing to see the end of Larry Drew II as I thought he played well in Philly but I’m excited for Tim to be there.

I’m excited for Tim as well. I hope that he gives it his all and that his effort translates into positive play. I hope that he can stick with the 6ers for the rest of the season.

djones chimes in…

Is this right !!! …

Frazier was eligible for the 2014 NBA Draft following a standout career at Penn State. He finished his career as the Lions all-time leader in assists and became the second player in conference history to record 1,000 points, 600 assists and 500 rebounds. Former Sixer Calvin Booth, who finished his career in 2008-09, was the last Penn State player in the NBA.

I know the part about Calvin Booth is technically wrong. He was the last Penn State graduate to play in the NBA, but Chris Babb has a short stint with Boston.

But, the part about “second player in conference history to record 1,000 points, 600 assists and 500 rebounds”. That’s not right, is it?

That’s correct…Anyone care to guess the first without looking…though I’ve got to tell you that even if I gave you the school, you still might not come up with the person. I barely remember the guy and it wasn’t too long ago.

My guess was Aaron Craft - but then I looked his stats up. He came up 8 rebounds short - 1314 points, 694 assists, but only 492 rebounds. Pretty good guess though.

I’m thinking the point guard for Wisconsin from a couple of years ago, drawing a blank on his name at this hour (which leads me to believe I could be right).

EDIT: Looked his name up. Jordan Taylor - not the guy. 1522 points, 412 rebounds, 464 assists. So he comes up short in two categories.

Craft would have been my guess. However, after finding out the correct answer, I wouldn’t have guessed correctly even if given the school.

I forget the name, but I thought we discussed this last year when Tim hit that mark. It was some guy I wouldn’t have picked if I was given the all time rosters of every school and had 100 guesses. I didn’t know the name then, which is probably why I don’t remember it now.

Just because I was curious, I looked up Battle’s numbers knowing he had a ton of points, rebounds and assists also. He is in the 1,000/600/500 club. Just he’s in the 1,000 points / 600 rebounds / 500 assists club (2,213 / 625 / 517).

If I were to take a guess…

Usually, these statistical anomalies will come at a traditionally down-trodden school where you have a kid of pretty good talent, but not NBA talent where he would leave early for the draft, but still be able to play substantial minutes for 4 year. Think Timmy and Battle.

Because of that, I would guess that the school may be Northwestern, and the player may be that point guard with the eastern European name, or the PG before him

*EDIT: I thought about the question again. If Frazier was the SECOND player to do it, then the first one is not currently playing. Just a little brain fart on my part.

I’m really happy for Tim, and wish him the best of luck.

I got a chuckle out of this part of the article:

The Philadelphia 76ers today announced they have signed guard Tim Frazier to a 10-day contract. Frazier is the 31st GATORADE Call-Up of the 2014-15 NBA Development League season.

Is Gatorade paying to be the sponsor of call-ups from the D-League? Wow! ;D

I looked up the answer. I barely even remember the name.
