My apologies for not having the overall results. I am off this week for some hunting ( I did get my buck this morning ;D) Dont tell, but the overall spreadsheet is on my work computer. So I did throw this together so we can see the results for this game. I will get the overall results up again next Monday after the Temple game (when I go back) Thanks!

At least I beat Pomerory. And unlike the guy just ahead of me (and 4 others), I picked the correct winner. So I feel somewhat vindicated. ;D

Is there a penalty for picking the wrong team to win?

#4

No.

No.

There should be a penalty for picking the other team when PSU wins the game. That is just plain wrong.

(of course I’m joking. this is mhenry’s game and he can make whatever rules he wants.)

#6

OK. My best showing so far.

I ave to tell you though, I love stats but wasnt the best statistician. Thus, lay the credit to unclelar for helping me out on this game.

just to let you know for these rankings - I am the user formerly known as “bem5047.”

Noted. Thanks.

No.

Then what is the logic of the program? Sorry, if you have posted it before ( I think, you have) but I can’t find it.

Damn, all those fouls killed me. I can’t believe being off by 9 points total puts me at #20.

#12

I’ve been the worst; and, this game I’ve proved the adage about blind squirrels and acorns, so this is fun.

I’ll just keep picking PSU to win and see if in the end my optimism ranks me higher than the realists… or not. ;D

Tundra, the idea of the game is to properly predict the final score, not neccesarily the winner. Like Unclelar had said before, imagine a graph with PSU’s score on one axis and their opponent’s score on the other axis. If you graphed both score in to one dot on the graph, the winner of this game would be the dot closest to the correct plot on the graph. Your score after the game is the numerical reference of that point. The ideal mathematical score would be zero. Whatever your score ends up being is that many standard deviations from the numerical graph reference of zero.

Was this a good answer lar? lol

Well, you’ve got it right except for the part about the standard deviation (I noticed that you mentioned it before and I’m not sure where you came up with that). The score that you are calculating is the actual distance from the prediction, it’s not a standard deviation.
