I posted this in another thread but it’s worth some consideration.

Looking at the results of this game got me to thinking that the way that we are tracking the results might be a little off. Pretty much anyone who picks this game is going to be way off the mark. And because we are averaging the results of every game prediction, anyone who participated in this game will see his average take a jump thus giving those who just skipped the game an unfair advantage.

I propose somewhat normalizing the results of the picks each game, then use that number when averaging an individuals picks for the season. That could be done simply by dividing each persons current result for the game by the average of all the results for the game. It the average of all the picks for a game was 5.0, and individual’s prediction was off by 10.0, then their score for the game would be 2.0 not 10.0. The 2.0 score would be used for the season long calculation.

That would keep the results exactly the same for each game, but would adjust the season long results so any one game wouldn’t have a disproportional weight on the overall score.
