According to 247, the following PSU players had Villanova offers: Lamar Stevens, Josh Reaves, Shep Garner. That's one player in 2016, 2015, and 2014 respectively. Prior to 2014, not a single PSU commit had received a VU offer dating back to 2002, when 247 started keeping track of the offer sheets. After Garner committed to PSU, the VU community immediately referred to him as 'always a backup plan' to Phil Booth, but VU was hot on the trail at one point. After Reaves committed to PSU, VU Hoops had an article stating Reaves was "heavily pursued by Georgetown, Villanova and Maryland." I also recall a number of Villanova fans/writers who spoke very highly on Lamar Stevens, and Villanova stayed on his trail hard until they realized they couldn't receive a commitment without offering Carr, a player that they did not feel as though they needed.
The only VU commit offered by PSU for 2016 was Painter, who was 'very' close to being a PSU commit. Also if I remember correctly, Mikal Bridges who is turning into a star at 'Nova was very close to committing to PSU, in fact there was some leak on Twitter or somewhere saying he had committed to PSU before a retraction was made. At the end of the day, no PSU hoops is not in the same league of recruiting with Villanova, but it's being willfully ignorant to suggest that we're nowhere close, as significant progress to close the gap has been made over the past 3 years.
