Her two three point FGs in the first half tonight give her the Big Ten record for most threes in a season. At halftime, #2 seed PSU leads #11 seed Illniois 35-33. PSU led by 16 at one point but Illinois closed the half with an 18-2 run. Winner advances to the finals tomorrow against the OSU/MSU winner.
PSU comes back with a solid second half to win. Maggie nailed three more threes in the half to lead all scorers with 23. That takes her season point total to 525 and moves her past Susan Robinson for second place on the PSU freshman scoring list. Maggie should pass Mazzante’s 529 tomorrow.
Lucas now has 110 threes on the season and can take aim at the NCAA record of 126.
PSU’s win basically earns Maggie an extra game tomorrow. Since Penn State will be hosting the opening rounds of the NCAA, Maggie has an excellent opportunity to pick up a few more games. With luck, PSU wins both of the BJC games, so it’s not a stretch at all to think she might have four games left.
At her current pace, with those four games, she would total 124 threes, so she only needs to pick up a couple of extras to match the NCAA record.
