That’s true. It will be interesting to see what happens to conference alignment if this happens. Right now the WCHL is in trouble. All but Huntsville and the two Alaska schools are talking about forming their own league and leaving the rest out. The two Alaska schools almost shut down hockey a couple years ago. This might force them out (or maybe it saves them if they can reduce their travel expense).
Adding Penn would mean 7 Ivy League schools (Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth, Brown, Cornell and Princeton already play D-1). Would they leave the ECAC and for an Ivy League for hockey? If that happens, where do Union, St. Lawrence, Quinnipiac, Clarkson, Colgate and RPI go? That’s still six schools – enough to stick together. Maybe they pull a couple schools from Atlantic Hockey.
All speculation of course. But more changes are coming (including Illinois in the B1G soon).
