OT: PSU Baseball in BTN

#1

Home against Iowa. Currently up 6-0 in the top of the 4th.

#2

Nits win 6-2 – their 6th conference win in a row. Moves their conference record to an even 8-8. The starter goes 8 with 10 strikeouts. Penn State also has a freshman outfielder that went 4-5 and is hitting about .600 over his last 9 or 10 games.

We were in HV and we made it over to the stadium to see PSU beat Iowa last night. The PSU-Iowa games today @ 4 PM and tomorrow @ 11 AM will also be on live on the BTN. PSU is currently now only one game out of first place in the Big Ten since both Michigan and NU lost last night! GO LIONS!

Talk about a wide open race! The next few weeks should be quite interesting.

Standings following today’s games

Michigan State and Purdue are playing a Sat-Mon series this week which is why the standings are a half game off. If the Spartans beat the Boilermakers tomorrow the entire conference will all be within 2 games with just two weekends left.

Lar - what’s up with those horrific PSU baseball jerseys. They are some of the ugliest things I’ve ever seen!!

#10

Disagree entirely.

First of all, they wore them as part of the Wounded Warriors project. The jerseys were auctioned off as a fund raiser.

Secondly, they looked pretty slick in person

#11

It almost seemed like the baseball gods wanted this to happen. Michigan State rallied from being down 4-0 to top Purdue 5-4 and really tighten up the race.

FTR - PSU loses tiebreakers to Illinois, Purdue, Northwestern, and Iowa but wins over Ohio State and Michigan State.

They have two series to go - at Minnesota this weekend, then against Michigan at home for the season finale May 20-22.

Didn’t know they part of a fundraiser - good for them. Still think they were ugly.

Sorta like those pink uni’s the Lady Lions wear sometimes!

Very exciting, yet bittersweet win for the PSU guys last night. PSU does not make the cut to play in the BT tournament despite the great comeback effort last night vs. Michigan.

They were lucky to win it. Wine put pitcher Jesse Alfreno in as a pinch runner in the ninth. He was on second base as the potential winning run. The count went to 3-2 on Sterenka and with two outs, the runners should have been off with the pitch, but, as you can see in this photo, as the pitch was delivered, Alfreno is just inching off the bag rather than running. A good throw would have caught him at the plate (see the second photo) when he should have been strolling across. That’s what you get when you use pitchers as pinch runners. It was a fun game to watch though.

I think he should be. With the stadium and 6 years we can’t be a non BTT team. HE also doesn’t even look at local talent that has gone elsewhere and done well. This year the one local kid he had was a monster and I took a lot for Wine to add him to the team out of Lewistown

This always bothers me. Running on a 3-2 pitch with 2 outs is about as fundamental as it gets. I don’t care if you are a pitcher, how can you play organized ball for that many years and not know something so elementary?

Even I know that. And if you are a pitcher in college, you probably played a position in high school. So that really isn’t an excuse.
