I agree on the nickname. Wasn’t there an old WWF wrestler name Mr. Wonderful (Paul Orndorff)? Perhaps an homage?

In one of his first ventures into Prome Time, Phil Davis defeats 9-1 Alexander “The Mauler” Gustafsson in the first round.

This was on the undercard of this past Satruday’s BJ Penn/Frankie Edgar fight.

Congrats Phil. He’s 6-0 and will be in the spotlight soon.

Very cool - i meant to check on how he did this weekend.

Also sad to see Penn’s career start fading… he was one of my favorite MMA guys, but ever since the GSP thing I just think he’s kind of done. Would have liked to see him go out on top.

That was a ridiculous anaconda submission. Phil is going to be doing big things. Bones Jones is a beast, though.

Phil Davis won again, this time by unanimous decison. I did not see the fight, but the write ups sound like he dominated, no question about it.

He beat 9-2 Rodney “Sho Nuff the Master” Wallace on Aug 7th, this past Saturday.

Congrat to Phil Davis !!! He is now 7-0 !!!

Wow. Didn’t expect to see a “Last Dragon” reference today. Sho’Nuff was the Shogun of Harlem. Vanity was so HOT back then. I remember reading that the actor who played Sho’Nuff passed away a year or so ago.

Just head some news on our boy, Phil Daivs.

He is on the Main Card of UFC 123 from the Palace in Detroit on Nov 20th.

Tim Boetsch vs. Phil Davis tapped for UFC 123

His opponent, Tim Boetsch, is also a hometown kid. He’s from Sunbury and wrestled at Lock Haven.

I forgot about this thread or I would have posted that when the release came out. Phil is super hyped to be on the card, I myself cannot wait to see him again.

Boetsch is a Mainer. His wife is from the Sunbury area, she’s a Fatool, and he moved there a few years ago. His gym was a pool hall when I was growing up.

I think the UFC website has him as being born in Sunbury. I also see that he went to a wrestling academy in Maine. Is Maine where he grew up?

#13

Maine born & raised. I think he was a 3 or 4 time state champ up there.

His father in-law Wade wrestled for Shik and placed in the late 70s. Can’t remember if Wade wrestled in college or not. For some reason I think he boxed in college. I was a really young pup back then. Wade’s in his 50s, but he’s in better shape than 99% of guys in their 20s.

Wade’s brother Gregg placed for Shik in the early 80s and wrestled for NC State, I think he qualified for nationals once or twice.

Wade’s boy Drew, Boetsch’s brother in-law, wrestled for Shik & placed in the mid 90s. Can’t remember if he went to college or not.

Our boy Phil Davis is still undefeated.

I noticed that he is scheduled to fight Matt Hamill in UFC 129 on April 30, 2011.

For those who may not follow, Matt is a deaf wrestler who appeared on one of the Ultimate Fighter shows. He is a big name, and a win here will put Phil in the spotlight.

I saw him on American Chopper (or whatever that show is called) the other night. He was pretty cool.

I think Matt is a 3 or 4 time Div III champ and we all know Phil’s story.
