Herein lies the problem (or benefit, depending on your view) of having Joe Paterno as head coach. Money, money and money. And it’s not just corporate donations or booster contributions. A 7-5 Penn State team coached by (insert any name other than Joe Paterno here) does NOT get an Outback Bowl bid this past year, nor the money associated therewith. He’s our coach until he or God says he’s not. Period.
One - I think they get the bid no matter who is coaching.
Two - it’s irrelevant anyway, since all the bowl monies go to the conference not the teams.
Does the school get private donations because of Paterno? Certainly, but the bowl money isn’t part of it.
