Saw "Whiplash" tonight. IMO, okay, not great. Best film for me was "Birdman" followed by "American Sniper". Of course, the Hollywood Crowd hates the movie, preferring idiotic movies about wars like "Monuments Men". I didn't see it. I don't see George Clooney movies. He has editorial control, and they stink, always looking to promote a message. But here's a review on "American Sniper", actually more than a review. Is Penn State on the wrong side again?
American Sniper Freakout
Academy voters have been circulating a much-derided New Republic article by a Penn State professor of international affairs who denounced the film in spite of his admission that he had seen only the trailer.
Is that the same guy as the one in the TED talk, about empathy? Criticizing the film without seeing it? Contempt prior to investigation. Shameful. Should be barred from teaching. In the real world, that's cause for being fired. Maybe they should have a TED talk on empathy for Ukrainians, or the families of ISIS victims, or the Christians slaughtered in the Mideast, or the Jews under attack in Europe, or maybe American soldiers risking their lives when called to action. Nah, same old s***. Blame America first. Oh, I forgot, Obama said everything's great. Boy, are Hollywood and academia out of touch with Americans. Ticket sales for this movie are making the left nuts. It's really amazing. You'd think Hollywood would want to make movies Americans want to see, so you know, they'd make more money. But no, they have an agenda, and this doesn't fit it. Same reason why CNN gets crushed by Fox. CNN doesn't want to show what Americans want to see. CNN execs don't care. Can't wait for the next election.
