I forgot that hewey gave me a Korean movie, "The Host". It was sort of like this. A chem lab dumps chemicals into a river, and it creates a sea/land monster. Here's the trailer, which is better than the movie. They don't show the monster much here, for good reason. It's kind of ridiculous looking, like Mothra, Godzilla, but kind of cool in some ways. Bad dubbing. The Americans in it speak English, but the Koreans are dubbed, so it was like filmed in two languages. Weird.
I see there's a "Host 2" now, due next year. BTW, I see there's now also an American "Oldboy" coming out, with Josh Brolin. Oldboy is considered Korea's greatest movie. Meet a Korean and ask if they know Oldboy, and you'll get 100% yes. hewey gave me that one also, and I've recommended it to many. You get mixed results from viewers, but no one ever forgets it. A colleague of mine calls me Oldboy, as he thought I was nuts recommending it, but can't forget it. Oldboy is considered by some making lists, as the #1 foreign movie in last 10 years, like IMDB. Here's their list. I've seen 13 of these 20. City of God must be just beyond 10 years, but that's a must see also. I see number 13, Irreversible, is done in reverse chronological order, like Memento, which I didn't like, though clever. Number 5, "Internal Affairs", was redone by Scorcese, in "The Departed". I remember Internal Affairs as okay. I didn't like The Departed. On this list, #13 is harrowing, a serial killer, pretty rough stuff, #3, Amelie, a magical film, one of my all time favorites(like Cinema Paradiso), and number 16, a Scandinavian film about a child vampire who befriends a sort of loser, and protects him, is incredibly creepy, but with some outstanding shots, like a women bit by her, and before she becomes a vampire full boat, she's attacked by about 20 cats, who I suppose, know what she's becoming. It's an intense scene with cats hanging off her, and she flinging them around, and an astounded person looking on.
Here's a scene from "Let the Right One In," with an onlooker. This victim ends up being found frozen in the lake as kids are playing hockey. It's also been copied in the US, though I didn't see it.
