good for us with T. Jones
Maybe I can like VT again now. Even with all their tragedies I could not pull for the Hokies in basketball. Good riddance Seth.
Terence Jones @GFS_05 If this is true my list of schools jus got snaller
Glad to hear former PSU assistant and former VT assistant James Johnson now has a new gig @ Clemson.
I wonder if Ed called him up and apologized again
good for us with T. Jones ;)
Yep…Terence Jones @GFS_05 If this is true my list of schools jus got snaller
Terence Jones @GFS_05
RT @foe23 vt was about to get another player from the 410 not gonna happen now
reads to me that Jones was likely going to choose VT - and isn’t anymore.
What an odd juxtaposition…
"One year from now, in 2013, we were not going to extend the contract at all, nor would we extend the contract the year after that," Weaver said. So why wait?
My question is why did they wait until teh end of April?
Greenberg stuff is interesting.
It seems that Jim Weaver was concerned about losing so many assistants (former Penn Stater James Johnson said he wouldn’t stay even if Virginia Tech matched Clemson’s offer), and that he had decided not to renew Greenberg next year so it made no sense to bring in three assistants for a year.
There is some sportswriter talk that this is bad timing, but I don’t buy that.
Plus, it may relieve Virginia Tech of the temptation to hire a retread, and go with someone like Pat and BOB. I think the circumstances at Penn State (late vacancy, Sandusky scandal) enabled the administration to go a little outside the box, and I think that was a good thing.
Last, there is some talk in Dana’s story that Virginia Tech underachieved. Does anyone among our Penn State is a sleeping giant crowd look at Virginia Tech and say ‘that’s a program that should be at the top of the ACC?’
Definitely a bit on them “hmm…” side
Hardly. And this talk about “underachieving” is ludicrous. 170 wins in 9 years at VT is quite impressive, especially when you consider their men’s BBall program was about in the same shape as ours when Greenberg was hired at VT and DeChellis at PSU. I would have been thrilled if we had averaged 19 wins per year the last nine seasons and knocked off the likes of Duke and UNC a few times. I think that Chambers can achieve even more at PSU than Greenberg did at VT.
Seth Greenberg is one of the slimiest coaches in college basketball. This is not at all a surprise and I in no way buy into the “I didn’t want to hire 3 assistants for one year when I was just going to let him go next year” nonsense.
I’m sure Vitale will be apoplectic over this.

With the right coach I’d think they should be able to have comparable success to UVA and WVU. Even if they do not reach the same level as those programs I’d think they could pull off more NCAA tournament appearances
