At the time of his AD appointment, my opinion was that:
Joyner had absolutely no qualifications. In his lifetime he had never worked a day on the payroll of a University, or in a college athletic department, much less as head of a major Athletic Department. I would submit that his qualifications for the AD job and those of Jarad Kushner in his current staff position rivaled each other.
My opinion was that he was a member of the Board, a Board that was being highly criticized, and that the Board wanted one of their own to basically help control the narrative. He was, by all accounts, widely disliked, throughout the PSU coaching family, often unapproachable as well as unavailable.
I was glad when he left, but I will acknowledge his two major hires were spot on and, luck or not, they had much to do with our surviving the Sandusky aftermath and the current recovery.
