Former PSU assistant Jeff Bower was named coach of the New Orleans Hornets today. He’s been serving as the GM, but will take over for Byron Scott after he was fired. His top assistant is Tim Floyd. Bower was an assistant at PSU from 83-86 under Parkhill, and then he was announced as an assistant here at PSU right after Ed was hired (not sure if he ever actually made it here and started on the job, or if he headed back to new Orleans before he ever got there). They haven’t put the “interim” tag on Jeff, but it seems pretty clear from comments coming out of New Orleans that he’s sort of a stop-gap right now. Good luck to him.
I think Lar might know the exact answer, but I believe he never made it to Penn State. He was replaced by Kurt Kanaskie.
I just found the press release and he never did actually make it here the second time.
I seem to remember him saying he wanted to be an NBA head coach someday.
Jeff’s a very nice guy. He was a couple years behind me in high school. Descent ballplayer, hard worker. Well deserved.

I would love for us to find a way to fit him into our program but he won’t be on the FA market long. He’ll get another NBA gig soon I bet.
I have also heard Jeff is a “good guy.”
To me, it looks like the star player got a management guy fired…happens all the time in the NBA.
