Just what is the basketball capacity of the Giant Center? In this piece, Jomes says it is "about 12,000" yet in this article he wrote in May he says it is 10,500.
It's 10,500 for hockey. I can see squeezing more for basketball. But I don't know how many more.
From what I remember, those games are not very packed to begin with. I don't think capacity is something to worry about in the first rounds.
Just did a quick check of some of the arenas used in the first round this year....
Dunkin Donuts Center, Providence, R.I. .... basketball capacity 12,400 (Ice hockey: 11,075)
Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena, Spokane, Wash. ... basketball capacity 12,210 (Hockey: 10,759)
Well they aren't bidding for first round games; they are bidding for preliminary round games, which, to date, have been held in Dayton (capacity 13,435). Attendance this year was 11,728.
