I didn’t know there were guys dealing with the flu. Whoever the sick guys are will hopefully be somewhat isolated from the other guys.

Lounging at the Clarion Hotel in Evansville.

I wonder why they just didn’t drive straight to Champaign immediately upon landing. I would think the weather & roads would be worse by waiting another 12 hrs. or so. One has to assume it was on the advise of the DOT.

The djones article alluded to (my interpretation at least) the charter bus company not wanting to make the trip (down from Champaign and back) at night in that weather.

Ouch, that is not a short trip at all! Nearly 3 and half hours according to google maps, that being in good weather! Hope they get a good rest tonight! What a tough spot to be in. They are closer (by car) to Nashville, TN than they are to Champaign! Yikes. :o

Roads were in bad shape heading towards Champaign on I-57. Although it was well above freezing in Evansville, it would have gotten dangerous midway through. Seen too many stories of charter buses going off the road in bad weather…I think this was the right call. It’s still above freezing in Evansville and the entire area thru Champaign has been in a break, so I imagine the roads have been treated and had time to improve.

@PSUSTRETCH‎ A good morning in Evansville. Bus has arrived. Off to Champaign at 9 am. Guys eager to play tonight.

Good news, I suspect.

Too bad there’s no flightaware.com for charter buses

(about 10am ET) @PSUSTRETCH‎ Bus pullin’ out of Evansville. Driver attempting to route around front. Hopin for Champaign in 3 1/2 hours.

Here’s the weather on the drive:

They’d better hurry. ;D

Reminds me of many movie scenes where someone’s trying an escape and the doors of the thing they’re escaping from close milliseconds after the ship/plane/whatever escapes. The scene from the end of Independence Day comes to mind.

It’s pretty clear in State College at the moment. They’d have been a lot better off waiting here last night then flying to Champaign this morning. However, that’s the same decision that Jerry Dunn made years ago and he didn’t fair too well. I suspect that’s in the back of everyone’s mind when they make their travel choices these days.

Not sure why they didn’t land in Indianapolis last night? Unless the weather models said the trip was going to be easier coming up from the south, rather than traveling that I-74 corridor today. I’ve been on those roads from Evansville, via farm roads to Effingham, IL and up I-57 to Champaign and it’s not all that bad. Just thought it would have been easier on highway all the way from Indy, not to mention a lot shorter trip.

They may not have had much choice. In situations like that you often just have to go where the air traffic controllers tell you.

They weren’t allowed to land in Indianapolis.

man, that whole area is about to get hammered!!!

Valid point.

From the looks of things, it seems like they are fairly clear till the outskirts of Champaign as they should be through Effingham by now I would think. I’m sure the university can give the bus a snow plow escort up I-57 and onto campus if need be.

Check out the animated radar…someone’s watching over that bus full of Nits, because the only place not getting snow right now is the stretch of road they’re likely on.

Any updates?
