Thanks for posting this Gameday.

For those who might be going to the games, post in this thread.

There’s still a slight chance I will make the trek from Atlanta on Sunday WHEN we make the final.

This guy might be an important matchup, maybe a rough customer who scores.

Wilmington’s only big man of note is East Carolina transfer John Fields, who gave the Seahawks 21 points and seven rebounds in the opening loss to Appalachian State but was suspended for the following game after committing a flagrant foul in the closing seconds. At 6-foot-9, 230 pounds, the athletic Fields should pose a decent early-season challenge for Penn State’s frontcourt.

Good point Coyote. The one thing I noticed during the early season games is the toughness that is missing down low. PSU does have its share of skilled big men, but it’s hard to replace Cornley’s toughness in the paint. Jones, Brooks, Jackson will have to step up their game in that regard for this team to take the next step. I’ve liked what Ottzilla has brought to the table in the paint. Just don’t know if he will get the minutes to make a difference.

I look at this team this way. Last year’s success could be broken down in three simple parts…Battle, Pringle, Cornley. That three-headed monster was too tough to tame for a lot of teams. Now this PSU outfit must replace 2/3’s of the team from last year. So far it seems that the combination of Frazier and Babb might be able to cover the Pringle loss. But who will be the enforcer in the paint. Cornley for his size was our Charles Barkley (6’4" and 3/4) and you just don’t go out and replace a player like that. It will take a team effort and PSU has the horses in the paint to give it a try, starting today against Mr. Fields.

4 hours, 30 minutes to tip
