Battle on Portsmouth Invitational Roster

#1

Portsmouth is an NBA prospect tournament/camp I believe.

Good! These type of events are great opportunities!!

#3

Here are the team breakdowns.

I chuckled at the last names of the coaches of his team

I was disappointed Battle wasn’t playing in that Reese’s game last night, seemed like he would have fit in well with most of those guys. Not sure how those rosters were put together though.

#5

His NBA chances will be helped a lot more with a good showing at the PIT though. I didn’t even know there was an all-star game on yesterday.

#6

It’s new I think? It was played at the final four site. Kalin Lucas, Austin Freeman, Lavoy Allen, and a bunch of others that appear on these rosters posted in this thread were all there. Was a pretty fun game to watch actually.

#7

Some real talent on these teams, pretty much an NIT All-Star game in tournament form.

Looks like it used to be called the NABC All-Star game. Info on it is on the NABC site

Not sure I am crazy about Battle’s team breakdown. Only 8 players…so each guy would play more than 50% of the time.
BUT…there are 2 small point guards out of the 8 players. I hope Taylor doesn’t get moved to the 2 guard during the play!!
He needs to impress the NBA folks that he is a legit PG!!

#10

I’m not sure Talor can go much more than 50% of the time anyway.

#11

Taylor? Really?

Battle’s team plays in the first game - Wednesday night at 7PM against Portsmouth Partnership (Hazell, Rossiter, Mike Davis, McConnell, Casey Mitchell, etc): http://www.portsmouthinvitational.com/gameDetails.php?year=2011&num=1

Would have loved to see this game in person… Hazell vs. Battle is tremendous.

#14

Where is Jimmer? :-\

#15

Fredette likely declined an invitation.

#16

Its geared a little more for Seton Hall fans obviously, but I tried to work Battle into it the best I could. ;D Enjoy!

If Talor’s team wins the 1st game, they’re guaranteed a Saturday game. If they lose the 1st, win the 2nd, they play on Saturday. I’m debating attending. 3 hours each way a bit much, but we’ll see how it goes. Looks like McConnell from St. Mary’s will get him in 1st game. He had some big games, 24 vs. Gonzaga, among others. Talor’s gotta smoke him.

From News: above

I will AGAIN state how important it is for Talor to play PG. The article mentions that the 3 other guards on the roster played 2 guard on their teams. WELL, one of them (Culpepper) is listed at 6-0 165 on his school’s web site. Come on…You think he is “trying out” for the NBA at 2 guard??
I don’t know much about the other 2 guards!

Sometimes, in events like this, it is very important NOT to be the “in-bounder” of the ball!! You might never get it back!!

I’m surprised something was said/done to make him think he wouldn’t get to be a PG.

The other three combined for 724 assists in their four year careers (though one guy only played 4 games in 2009-2010).

Battle had 517

I think it was a legitimate concern on his part due to his limited role at that spot this year. Ed’s move this year made sense, as it took the pressure off Talor, and lowered teams’ ability to double team him, when he very often didn’t have the ball. But I really thought having Jermaine(or Taran) also in maybe in 3 g offense, Talor, Taran, Jermaine might have put more points on the board. Hard to say, as Tim really stepped up, but in some tough games, our offense seemed limited. Kicking out to DJ and Jeff okay, but not ideal, and with little or no inside game, hard to create outside shots for himself.

I expect he’ll excel at this event(but then I always think that ;)). But he won’t be double teamed at the point, and what a relief that will be.
