Interesting to see MD’s climb.

Latest AP poll has TEN Big Ten teams either ranked or receiving votes. We’re in some serious trouble this season. I think we’ll be lucky to get to 4 wins, unfortunately.

sigh I hate to say it…but “same old PSU basketball”.

#28

Yes and no. At this point I see about 8 winnable games.
at/vs. Illinois, at/vs. Rutgers, vs. Purdue, vs. Iowa, vs. Maryland, at Northwestern

That’s it. You are absolutely correct that the rest of the conference is either unwinnable or would need to take more effort than what the team is putting in right now. However, I think there are about 8 winnable games and I think we win about 6 as long as we give the same effort that we did against UMBC or Jacksonville State (far better than Rutgers or Illinois and enough for a home game effort).

#29

Perhaps I’ll take this to another thread (sorry to hijack, Lar)…but I just don’t see us being consistent enough to win away games.

@Rutgers may be the only one we take on the road…but even then, we’ve traditionally not played very well on the road @RU. It’s a bandbox and it gets loud and oddly intimidating (for being such a terrible program).

Maryland and Iowa at home - losses. I’m willing to bet they even cover the spread. This is why I see us getting to 4 wins in the B1G this year. I hate to be down on this team - but after the terrible performance against a pedestrian Wisconsin team, we’re just not ready for B1G play with our young guys.

We haven’t had enough B1G games at Rutgers to make that type of suggestion. Penn State is 2-1 in the RAC. Both wins were double digits. Since entering the B1G we are 4-2 against Rutgers, 1 home loss (after a 3OT loss at Indiana) and 1 road loss. All other games have been blow out wins of 12+ points in the RAC or BJC. So Penn State is doing okay against Rutgers, but we need more games against them to see if we are preforming good or bad against them. I am sorry for hijacking the thread as well.

Maryland/Iowa I feel we nab a win there. Likely from the former, Maryland is surging and Iowa is more in the middle. Winning while at the same time losing games. I see 2 wins against Rutgers, 2 against Illinois, 1 against Northwestern/Purdue, 1 against Maryland/Iowa, that’s it after that. The others are possible but unlikely as we have agreed.

It almost feels like a road W at the BJC should be counted as a -0- If you did that, IU would be at zero and MSU would still be tied with MD and UM. That feels more like where things are at in the conference. That will even itself out over time though too.
