Tom Hovasse’s Japan National Womens team has made the semi-finals of the Asian Championships. The winner gets a berth in the 2012 Olympics. They are 3-1 in pool play having beaten Lebanon, Chinese Tapei, and India while losing to Korea. They play China today in their last pool game. Saturday they will play China again in the semi-finals.

After reading the subject line, I figured we had stooped to a new low of basketball desperation for discussion

I really enjoyed watching the tall skinny ginger play when he was starring at PSU.

China beat them handily 76-53 in their final pool game. Of course, it was basically meaningless since both had already qualified. The game that counts will be Saturday.

The Chinese team averages almost 6" taller than the Japanese team, 6’2" to 5’8". Tom has his work cut out for him going into Saturday’s game.

Well the Japanese lost to the Chinese 76-62 on Saturday. They did come back to beat Chinese Taipei on Sunday. This qualified them for the final qualifying tournament next spring, 12 teams with 5 qualifying.
