[quote=“JohnT, post:125, topic:2735”]Didn’t know where to put this, since I don’t think we are recruiting him. Tom Hovasse’s son is a senior point guard for Torrey Pines High School out in San Diego. Here is a mid-season highlight video of him. Better handle than his dad.
Dominic Hovasse highlights.
And to relate this back closer to the former player, Tom’s team, JX-Eneos, won the All Japan 2015 Mid Season Tournament. Sounds like a big deal.
[quote=Tom Hovasse Facebook post]We won the All Japan tournament yesterday for the 2nd straight year!!! We beat Fujitsu in a thriller in the semi-finals (72-69) and beat Denso in the finals (66-53). Both games were hard fought victories. Our girls dug deep when things weren’t going well and believed in themselves all the way to the end. The look on our point guards face tells you what it means to all of us at JX-Eneos. So proud to be a part of this team!
Maybe we should hire him to replace Coquese Washington?
My understanding was that Hovasse was hired to basically help coach the Japanese women’s national team. The job with JX-Eneos is just another way to compensate him for his national team work.
The Japanese women have been fairly successful the last couple of years and had positioned themselves to probably qualify for the 2016 Olympics (they won the 2013 Asian Championships and were 14th in the 2014 World Championships). Unfortunately, they ran afoul of FIBA regulations (Japan has two pro leagues and FIBA wants them to merge) and were suspended from international play probably eliminating them from the 2016 Olympics.
So maybe he’s available for hire.
